The title character is Emma Thompson, sort of.  Well, she plays herself if she were a lesbian from Ohio.  Ellen is her personal assistant and encourages her to come out, but then Sean Penn makes a surprise announcement.  I might've gone with a B-, but Emma throws herself into the role (of her sort of self) as if she's having a blast.

Seth Jaffe, who was Eddie on Who's the Boss?, is the Manager.  Small Hollywood legend Army Archerd, then 75, plays himself, as he did on That Girl.  This is the only Ellen script from Lawrence Broch, who did eight for Roseanne.
