Word of Mouth with Eric Burns

Word of Mouth with Eric Burns
Probably an earlier episode
Movietime
November 1989
Talk Show
VHS
B-

Low-budget cable show with interesting discussions of pop culture and sometimes high culture.  It started running the previous spring and would be off the air less than two months after this, but I was a loyal viewer in the meantime.  Burns is the producer and host, with the following regular panelists:
  • Merrill Markoe, "columnist and international beauty," as well as former producer of The David Letterman Show;
  • Movie critic Richard Schickel;
  • Van Gordon Sauter, former head of CBS news.
The four of them argue and amuse each other and, in the case of Merrill this episode, provide candy.  Sauter is the token right-winger, or maybe it's libertarian, so at one point he and Schickel, who has an "existential" attitude towards the government, get into an argument about the stealth bomber.  Towards the end of the episode comes Merrill's Corner, this time examining dog toys.  Note that the Berlin Wall's destruction on November 9th is briefly discussed, so that dates this episode roughly to the middle of that month.
