Airing shortly before the Presidential Election (LBJ vs. Goldwater), this pits the Skipper and Mr. Howell against each other for the leadership of the island, although as the title indicates, Gilligan wins as the write-in candidate.  Mr. Howell and the Skipper of course vote for themselves, but Mrs. Howell votes for Gilligan (in hopes that Mr. Howell will have time to finally take a honeymoon), Ginger votes for Mr. Howell (in hopes that he'll buy Hollywood and make her a star), and Gilligan and Mary Anne vote for Gilligan.  Mary Ann's motivation is unclear, although she does seem affronted by Mr. Howell's attempts to bribe her.  The remaining vote is the Professor's for the Skipper.  Ginger tries to "seduce" Gilligan twice on this episode, but he knocks himself out by backing up into a tree, causing her to do takes to the camera.  As the episode ends, Gilligan is still the President, despite Mr. Howell's threat to impeach him.  But it'll be back to the status quo next time.  Sherwood's co-writer Roland Wolpert would return, and director Richard Donner is back for the middle of his three GI episodes.
