Even though Toby (Bob Beach) criticized Gidget in "We Got Each Other" (also written by John McGreevey) for being too attached to her father, here his father (Spiro-Agnew-lookalike Herb Voland, who'd later be Gen. Crandell Clayton on M*A*S*H) accompanies them on all their dates. When Gidget says the title phrase to John, he of course misunderstands. Note Sally Field's shorter hairstyle than usual.
