This feels like a less interesting reworking of the episode "Jack the Giant Killer," and that was my least favorite of Season One.  On the one hand, it's nice that Jack stands up for Mr. Furley, rather than feeling he has to prove his machismo when a bully thinks he's a wimp and Mr. Roper is a brave little guy.  But on the other hand, this time, everyone, including the bully, offers Jack a chance to back out, and he doesn't.  Plus, boxing is probably my least favorite sport, especially on sitcoms.  And when the comedic highlight is Jack accidentally punching Janet, well.  Still, not terrible, but not really worth watching either.

Brad Blaisdell as Mike the Bartender actually gets a scene outside the Beagle, showing up at the gym in a blue leisure suit to watch the match.  Johnny Haymer, who was Danny St. Tommy on Mork & Mindy and Sgt. Zale on M*A*S*H but at this point would've been most recognizable to me from Madame's Place, plays Rocco, the referee and gym-owner.  This is the first of seven 3'sC scripts written by David Mirkin.
