Alda wrote and directed this episode where Hawkeye makes a series of mistakes that cause Radar to not only stop hero-worshiping him but to stop liking him.  The two men make up in the end, and Hawkeye sincerely salutes Radar when the younger man gets the Purple Heart.  Everyone is at the top of their game here, and I like how Mulcahy, Potter, and Houlihan all tell Pierce off in characteristic ways.  There are also nice little moments, like how we see the continuing friendship between the corporals O'Reilly and Klinger, as well as BJ's reaction.  I honestly can't imagine an episode like this if Trapper, Henry, or Frank were still around.

Robin Riker, who's Nurse Perry, would be on Welcome Back, Kotter that week.  GI #1 Larry Gilman would appear on What's Happening!! the next year.  Frances Fong (Rosie), Roy Goldman (as Roy Goldman), Kellye Nakahara (Yamato), Patricia Stevens (Nurse Baker), and Sal Viscusco (PA Announcer) return.

The episode is more subtle than the ad.
