M*A*S*H: Some 38th Parallels

M*A*S*H: Some 38th Parallels
CBS
January 20, 1976
Dramedy
DVD
B

This is the last of three Regier & Markowitz stories (although Markowitz would write a couple more for M*A*S*H) and like their episode "George" it intelligently handles a sexual subject that wasn't often addressed on television that time.  Hawkeye finds himself impotent with Nurse Able (Lynnette Mettey in her last M*A*S*H appearance).  He confides in both BJ and Potter, who react with more understanding than I can picture either Trapper or Henry reacting.  Meanwhile Radar bonds with a patient whose life he helps save, and then when the man dies later, Radar is stunned, even into the closing shot of the episode sometime later.  Not quite a B+ episode (the thing with Frank's trash campaign doesn't fit nor does it work as comic relief), but certainly one of the better episodes of the season.

Kevin Hagen makes his first of two M*A*S*H cameos, as Col. Coner.  Richard Lee-Sung (this time Man at Auction) Kelly Nakahara (Yamato, going on a date with Klinger) return.
