This is the only episode of WBK written by Jim Parker, who did five for That Girl. It explores one of the themes of the series: the relationship between violence and the meaning of manhood. Here, a tough PE teacher slaps Barbarino in front of the girls' gym class. Both men have their pride, as Kotter recognizes. Note that Epstein does a pretty good if abbreviated version of the "Barbarino" song.
Kristine Greco is again a female Sweathog.
