Welcome Back, Kotter: Horshack vs. Carvelli

Welcome Back, Kotter:  Horshack vs. Carvelli
ABC
December 9, 1976
Sitcom

C+

Notable things about this episode:
  • Twenty-seven-year-old Garry Shandling wrote the script (he'd previously written a bit for Sanford and Son);
  • Uncredited co-writers Mark Evanier and Dennis Palumbo play Dino "Crazy" Delaney and Delaney's Probation Officer respectively;
  • This is the episode that introduces Carvelli (played by Charles Fleischer, who'd later voice Roger Rabbit) and his annoying sidekick Murray (Bob Harcum);
  • Kristine Greco again plays a female Sweathog, one of the Cheerleaders;
  • Strassman is absent;
  • Bonzo Moretti committed an act of cannibalism;
  • and most of the episode takes place in the schoolyard.

  1. No, Evanier and Palumbo didn't play Delaney and his parole officer. Writer George Tricker played Delaney and the parole officer was played by an actor whose name I don't recall. Marcia Strassman was in the episode and it was not the first appearance of Charlie Fleischer as Carvelli.

  2. Ah, I was going by IMDB (and a bad DVD copy), sorry. Thank you for the corrections. And in case you see this, any inside info on why Melonie Haller's Angie character seemed to be promoted (mentioned in the opening credits when Debralee Scott and Vernee Watson never were), but her character not really developed before she was dropped?
