This story by Laurence Marks has some good wordplay (as with Hawkeye's "carry" speech) and some satire of military intelligence, which (perhaps anticipating or perhaps stealing from George Carlin) is seen as a contradiction in terms. Col. Flagg is back, after four or five months he claims. Col. Blake is gone (I think Stevenson was easing out of the show), so Hawkeye has the position of the episode's title. He does his best to defy Flagg, and even though you can see the twist at the end coming, it's still satisfying. Maybe Marks should've worked without Gelbart more often.
Richard Lee-Sung has his first of eleven M*A*S*H roles, as the 2nd Kim Luc, while the 1st Kim Luc, Tad Horino, would come back once. Jerry Fujikawa's third M*A*S*H cameo is as Sang Yu. Mary Peters makes her first of two uncredited appearances as a nameless Nurse. Roy Goldman (as Roy Goldman), Jeff Maxwell (Straminsky), and Dennis Troy (this time as Carter) return.
